Iga-yaki Cup, Hydrangea
£42
A cup of speckled Iga clay under a hydrangea-blue glaze, from the Mashino kiln in Mie.
The glaze changes from cup to cup, anywhere from bright blue to a matte grey, and stops short of a dark, speckled clay foot.
Iga-yaki goes back more than 1,200 years. Tiny pebbles in the clay give these cups their rough surface, so each one has its own character.
